This page provides instructions for applying to PRIMES Circle , a math enrichment program for local students. Spring 2022 meetings are planned to be held on campus according to MIT COVID policies and rules for K-12 students and programs. If MIT policies change, Circle might have to switch to an online mode.


High school students living within commuting distance from Boston are eligible. The students are selected on the basis of their academic record, teachers’ recommendations, and demonstrated ability and interest in mathematics. Girls, minorities, students with disadvantaged backgrounds and from underserved communities are VERY STRONGLY encouraged to apply .

Past participants are not eligible to apply to PRIMES Circle in subsequent years. They are encouraged to apply to the MIT PRIMES program.

  1. A questionnaire with basic personal and background information and a one-page personal statement explaining your interest in PRIMES Circle (see details below).
  2. A copy of your most recent school transcript .
  3. One or two letters of recommendation .

Directions for submission

Submit your application online . Upload your personal statement and your school transcript.

Letters of recommendation must be emailed by the recommenders directly to . The letters must be from people who know you well, preferably from those familiar with advanced mathematics, such as math/science teachers or counselors in math/science camps/programs. Letters should use the subject line "Recommendation on behalf of [your name]."

There is no application fee.


The deadline for receiving applications and letters of recommendation for 2023 is November 30, 2022 .

The admission decision will be based on the consideration of all components of your application. Admissions decisions will be made in mid-December. In January, admitted students and their parents will be invited to MIT for a welcome meeting with mentors and a placement test.

If you are admitted, you will be asked to provide a written permission from your parent/guardian to participate in PRIMES Circle.
