Background

The MIT Integration Bee is a yearly tradition during MIT's Independent Activities Period every January run by MIT Math graduate students. The Bee is open to all MIT students, although most who participate are undergraduates.

(Unfortunately, the event is not open to people outside MIT. Everyone is welcome to spectate in-person, though.)

Competition Format (as of 2026)

The qualifier test consists of 20 questions; see previous years' tests at the bottom of this page for examples. It can be taken during any 20-minute period within the time window listed above (no registration needed).

The top 16 students from the qualifier test take part in the bee. The first round of the bee is a "regular season" with four students competing to solve each integral (similar to a round-robin). Based on regular season performance, 8 students advance to a seeded single-elimination playoff bracket. In the playoffs, pairs of students go head-to-head to determine the Grand Integrator!

2026 Results

The 45th Annual Integration Bee took place on Wednesday, January 21st, 2026. Eight students advanced to the playoff bracket:

Check these out to get a feeling for the difficulty of the Bee's integrals, and maybe to practice. All qualifiers below were 20 minute tests.

Previous Years' Integration Bees

In the main event, there is a time limit for each integral. The difficulty and time limits of the integerals generally increase for later rounds.

Note: Only the integrals that were actually used appear in these files.
