  • OnLine Seminar on Undergraduate Mathematics Education, formerly known as the Electronic Mathematics Education Seminar, is entering its seventh season! I am joined by Tara Holm in organizing this seminar, now supported by TPSE-Math, the AMS, and the MAA. It's open to all! Here is a listing of the 104 talks through May 2024.
    Michel DeGraff and I organized a conference at MIT on January 20, 2024, sponsored by the Policy Lab, the Center for International Studies, and the Institute Community and Equity Office: "Linguistic Barriers, Exploitation, and Resistance in Haiti." here is the program and some detail about the panels, which will feature many of the leading historians, political scientists, educators, and linguistics who work Haiti.
    This volume of Lectures on Algebraic Topology is now available at this website, for a great price. From the zmMath review: "This is a user-friendly book and this reader thoroughly enjoyed following the author's path. Some brief biographical snippets throughout the text both give some historical perspective and add to the enjoyment. As befits lecture notes, there are numerous exercises, of varying degrees of difficulty (without solutions included). Much of this would be suitable for self-study. Those intending to specialize will appreciate the flags to more advanced topics or perspectives, and should be inspired to delve further. To summarize, these lecture notes are a valuable resource."

  • In October, 2022, I was interviewed by Paige (Dote) Bright on Chalk Radio.
  • I am serving in 2023 as Senior Faculty Associate for J-WEL Higher Education. In this capacity, I am leading the 2023 J-WEL Course Design Workshop.
  • We have developed a suite of Javascript "Mathlets" for use in courses in differential equations, calculus, and probability. They have been brought up to a11y accessiblity standard. This site contains a training course, introducing the MIT Mathlets and their use. Here's a poster about this project, dating fronm 2008.
  • I am proud to be involved with the MIT-Haiti Initiative. Here is a film about this initiative, prepared in conjunction with the visit to MIT by Haitian Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe, and here is a piece about it written for the MIT Faculty Newsletter in August 2016. Here is a fact-sheet about this initiative, dating from May 2022.
    In addition to many workshops and a couple of conferences, this initiative is in the process of producing a series of Instructional Guides, in Kreyòl, for active learning in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics.
    Under a grant from J-WEL pK-12, we have built the Platfòm MIT-Ayiti to gather material created by Haitian educators in the K-12 space and beyond.

    In August Michel DeGraff, William Scott Frager, and I published "An nou fè 2 kabès olye pou n rete nan lave men siye è," this Opinion piece in Le Nouvelliste, comparing the Haitian language in education policies in 1982 and 2021. Here is a loose and updated translation.

  • Along with Munther Dahleh and Franz Ulm as co-PIs, I have been directing the Program for Collaborative Student Research with students from Palestinian universities. This work is supported in part by a grant from J-WEL Higher Education. This project has now been expanded to involve faculty and students from institution beyond MIT, as well as from any Palestinian university. Some information about projects I have led can be found here.
    This project follows the Third International Gathering for Science in Palestine, at MIT in January 2020.
  • I am a mentor for The National Alliance for Doctoral Studies in the Mathematical Sciences.
  • The Educational Collaboration Space is a flexible educational collaboration tool built to support formation of communities of educators over time and space. It is a freely available Wordpress site featuring many specially designed plugins. Visit the MIT News item about this. It was also picked up here by Inside Higher Ed. Its development was supported by the MIT Office of Educational Innovation and Technology and the NSF.
