In class tests
- October 17
Here are two practice exams, in the second pair of files there are solutions to the first.
The test will cover all material to the end of this week, so including the lectures on October 8 and 10. Since no homework problems will be assigned for this until after the test, I suggest you work Rudin, Chapter 4, problems 2, 3, 4, 6 to prepare.
Following a request from Yamima Eadan I have added solutions to these four problems

This is the first homework that counts towards your grade. Please try to do it on your own. In any case you must write (or type) it yourself and NOT copy it from some other source. If you need to get help from someone else, in telling you HOW to proceed, that is okay.
Note: You may use the `easy' direction of the Fundamental Theorem of Algebra, that a polynomial of exactly order n has at most n roots.
Homework 1: Due at Noon, in 2-108 on Tuesday September 10.
Rudin: Chapter 1.
- Problem 1.
- Problem 3.
- Problem 5.

For those of you who were not listening in class, I said that the first problem set would not count towards grades and that, to show you how I would like it done, I would post solutions before the due time. Here they are -- you would be better off trying them yourself first. Even if you do not do this problem set, hand in a piece of paper with your name and e-mail address on it.
