COURSE DESCRIPTION

Functions of a complex variable; calculus of residues. Ordinary differential equations; Bessel and Legendre functions; Sturm-Liouville theory; partial differential equations.

Prerequisites: Calculus II (GIR) and 18.03

Text Book: F.B. Hildebrand, Advanced Calculus for Applications, 2nd Ed., Prentice-Hall 1976

[03.01.2010]  The deadline for Pset 4 is now Wednesday May 5th, 2010

[03.04.2010]  There was an error in the Problem Set 2. On page 2, you should read "Since Gamma(N+1) = N!" and not "Since Gamma(N)=N!". Sorry for that !

[03.22.2010]  A make-up exam is organized on Monday March 29th. Review sessions during the Spring break (Mo 03/22 at 5pm and Fr 03/26 at 12pm in my office). The solution set for the first exam is available here.
