RTG Workshop on Optimal Transport and Applications to Differential Geometry
August 18–23, Lake Tahoe, Nevada
About
This workshop, aimed at graduate students and junior faculty, will consist of a week-long retreat with talks and discussion session, where the goal will be to learn about optimal transport, and connections to Ricci curvature and differential geometry. A decade ago Sturm and Lott-Villani developed a weak notion of lower Ricci curvature bounds that applies to general metric measure spaces. This has had many exciting applications in geometric analysis. A syllabus will appear shortly, outlining the talks to be given in more detail. No previous knowledge of optimal transport will be assumed.
Unlike most workshops, the lectures at our retreat will be given by the participants. So you will be asked to give a lecture (and sign up for a slot once we've posted the syllabus).
The activities will be mentored by Nicola Gigli.
Time and location
The workshop will be held in the chalet Fjeldheim, by Lake Tahoe in Nevada, where accommodation for the participants will also be provided. The nearest large airport is Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO). We will try to arrange transportation for the group from the airport to the lodge once we know when people plan to arrive.
Activities will start on the afternoon of Sunday, August 18, and run until the morning of Friday, August 23.
Financial support
In addition to offering accommodation at the chalet, we expect to be able to provide participants with up to $300 of reimbursement for travel expenses.
Registration
To apply, please fill out the registration form. Extended deadline: Friday June 7.
Note that the number of participants will be limited by the available space; please only apply if you are fairly certain you will be able to attend. In the week following the deadline, you will hear back from us about whether or not you have a confirmed spot in workshop.
