COURSE DESCRIPTION

A computationally focused introduction to elliptic curves, with applications to number theory and cryptography. Lecture notes from the 2023 edition of 18.783 can be found here. See the course outline for more details.

Prerequisites: A year of algebra groups covering groups, rings, and fields (including Galois theory) at the level of 18.701/2. Complex analysis (18.112) is helpful but not required.


RECENT UPDATES

11-26-25Problem Set 11 has been posted. It is due Friday, December 5 (by midnight). On this problem set you can optionally solve 200 points worth of problems to obtain scores for two problem sets, one of which can be used to replace a score on an earlier problem set.
