Want to go to more arts events?

Friends of the Arts only organizes a few events per year; if you're keen to go to more, here's a list of places to start.


This list is far from complete; feel free to send us suggestions!

General

• MIT Council for the Arts offers free and discounted tickets to arts events in the Boston area; sign up for their mailing list.
• MIT Activities Committee offers somewhat discounted tickets to arts events, as well as random other discounts.
• Sign up for MIT's arts-announce mailing list to get a listing of upcoming music and theater events at MIT.

Classical music

• You can go to most Boston Symphony Orchestra concerts for free, if you have a college card.
• See here to get $8 tickets to the Boston Philharmonic.
• Handel and Haydn society (period instrument orchestra)
• A cheap way to see opera is to go to Harvard's Dunster House Opera (student singers) or Lowell House Opera (professional singers).

Museums

• MIT students get free admission to the Museum of Fine Arts.
• MIT students get free admission to the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, a great collection of art in a beautiful mansion in Boston.
• MIT students get free admission to the Institute of Contemporary Art.
• The Harvard Art Museums (Fogg, Busch-Reisinger, Sackler) are free for Cambridge residents.

Theater

• Actors' Shakespeare Project
• MIT Musical Theater Guild  (MIT student group)
• Central Square Theater
• "Shakespeare in the Common": Commonwealth Shakespeare Company puts on free Shakespeare performances in Boston Common during the summer.

Dance

• MIT Lecture Series Committee gives free screenings of popular films
• Harvard Film Archive film screenings (art films)
• Brattle Theater in Harvard Square (shows classics, cult movies, and more)
