COURSE DESCRIPTION

Continuation of the introduction to algebraic geometry given in 18.725. More advanced properties of varieties and morphisms of schemes, as well as sheaf cohomology.

Prerequisites: 18.725

Text Book: Algebraic Geometry, by Robin Hartshorne

Additional reading: There are a number of books all called Algebraic geometry by various authors: J. Harris; D. Mumford; I. Shafarevich. There are also a number of alternative books on schemes: The red book of schemes by D. Mumford; The geometry of schemes by D. Eisenbud and J. Harris. For books on toric varieties: Introduction to toric varieties by W. Fulton and Convex Bodies and Algebraic Geometry by T. Oda.
