Course description: This is a reading course on classic papers from differential geometry.  People in the class will study papers and present them to each other.  One goal is to develop a broad background in differential geometry.  Another goal is to practice delving into papers and to practice giving good presentations.  Here is a more fleshed out description of the class: Course description

Here is a list of suggested papers classic papers for the course: Paper list

Announcements:
Lunches: We will have an (optional) geometry seminar lunch on Wednesdays from 12 to 1, in the common area on the fourth floor.

Schedule: Click this link to look at the schedule of upcoming seminars. You can also sign up here to give a seminar. Seminar schedule

Background material wish list: This link leads to a document where people can record their wishes for seminars or mini-lectures on background material in differential geometry. Background material wish list

Plans for the first few classes: For the first two weeks, we will study a paper all together, and I will try to teach ways to study it and present it. The paper we will work with is about Sobolev inequalities on submanifolds of Euclidean space.

You can get a copy of the paper here: Sobolev inequalities on submanifolds of Euclidean space. (You might need to be at an MIT computer. From this page, click on Get PDF on the right-hand side.)

For class on Friday, start to have a look at the paper. Here is a very short reading guide about what to be looking for on this first reading: reading guide.
