ABSTRACT 

How can we determine which Schubert cell a given point on G/B is in from the vanishing pattern of its Plucker coordinates? Different versions of this problem will be discussed, along with the problem of defining a Schubert variety/cell by the minimal number of equations/inequalities of the form "Plucker coordinate vanishes/does not vanish".
