Let LM=Map(S^1,M) be the free loop space on an oriented manifold. I
will sketch how Chas and Sullivan defined a product and a Lie bracket
on H_*(LM) making it into a Gerstenhaber algebra. I will then discuss
how Cohen and Jones realized this as a product of spectra, and show
how this has something to do with topological Hochschild cohomology.
Time permitting, I will also discuss some possible generalizations.
