Extending a multiplication on a spectrum I
Abstract:
Given a spectrum E and a homotopy associative multiplication E smash E ->
E, we can ask whether it's possible to make E into an A_oo spectrum, i.e.,
whether there are higher coherent homotopies. We show, using the Stasheff
associahedron, what the obstructions to extending this multiplication to
an A_oo multiplication are, the obstructions lie in the Hochschild
cohomology of E_*E. Hopefully we'll have time to do an example, and show
that the Morava K-theories K(n) are A_oo.
