Chris Douglas
Nested Toda Brackets and Differentials in the Adams Spectral Sequence

Abstract:

Higher order Toda brackets are like gremlins: cute and furry and easy to handle, so long as you don't get them wet (or try to compute them as the case may be). I'll remind you what Toda brackets are, then present a collection of theorems describing Jacobi-style relations for nested higher order Toda brackets. I'll conclude by showing how you can use these Jacobi relations to, among other things, predict differentials in the Adams spectral sequence. This is joint work with Mike Hill.
