A lie algebra for the string group
Abstract:
The string group String(n) is the 3-connected cover of Spin(n). I will
introduce a model for it using the language of simplicial manifolds.
I will then explain why the L_oo algebra spin(n)+R with brackets
[,]:spin(n)+R x spin(n)+R -> spin(n)+R: [(X,c),(X',c')] = ([X,X'],0) and
[,,]:spin(n)+R x spin(n)+R x spin(n)+R -> spin(n)+R:
[(X,c),(X',c'),(X'',c'')] = [0,<[X,X'],X''>] wants to be the lie algebra
of String(n).
