The Sixteenth Bay Area Discrete Math Day (BADMath Day) will take place at MSRI on Saturday, April 5, 2008 between 10:00 AM and 5:00 PM. All talks will be held in the Simons Auditorium located on the first floor of MSRI.

BADMath Days are one-day meetings aimed at facilitating communication between researchers and graduate students of discrete mathematics around the San Francisco Bay Area. These days happen twice a year and strive to create an informal atmosphere to talk about discrete mathematics. The term "discrete mathematics" is chosen to include at least the following topics: Algebraic and Enumerative Combinatorics, Discrete Geometry, Graph Theory, Coding and Design Theory, Combinatorial Aspects of Computational Algebra and Geometry, Combinatorial Optimization, Probabilistic Combinatorics, Combinatorial Aspects of Statistics, and Combinatorics in Mathematical Physics.

Registration

There is no registration fee, but please register on or before March 29 by sending an e-mail to Sami Assaf (sassaf [AT] msri.org). This is essential so that we have an accurate head count for lunch. If you do not pre-register, you will not have any food, and we will be very mad at you. In your RSVP, please tell us (1) whether or not you will be attending dinner afterwards, and (2) any dietary restrictions you may have.

Lunch will be provided on-site (provided you registered) courtesy of MSRI. There will also be a dinner following the conference, subsidized by a donation from the D.E. Shaw Group, and everyone is more than invited to attend. Both will be vegetarian- and vegan-friendly.

Directions and parking

Directions to MSRI can be found on the MSRI webpage, but please read on. The Space Sciences Laboratory (on Gauss Way)'s parking lot is open for parking on Saturdays; this is the first right after the MSRI parking lot going up Centennial Drive. Please park here if possible, and if the lot is full, park in the MSRI lot (the upper two rows of parking) down below. If you park in the MSRI lot, please come up to MSRI and get a parking permit to put in your dashboard so that you will not be ticketed.

Carpooling and public transportation

We will be helping to organize carpools. If you are driving and have room for passengers or if you would like to be a passenger, then please contact an organizer near you or Tim Hsu if you cannot determine which organizer is nearest to you.

If you are planning to arrive via BART, note that the MSRI shuttle does not operate on Saturdays. To get to MSRI via public transportation, take the AC Transit #65 bus from the Downtown Berkeley BART station at 8:30am to arrive at MSRI at 8:53am, or at 9:30am to arrive at 9:53am.
