PHYSICAL MATHEMATICS SEMINAR TOPIC: SIMULATION OF FLOWS WITH FREE SURFACES: BUBBLE DYNAMICS, CAVITATION AND SPLASHING SPEAKER: DR. STEPHANE ZALESKI Laboratoire de Modelisation en Mecanique Universite Pierre et Marie Curie (University of Paris VI) FRANCE ABSTRACT: Numerical methods for the solutions of Navier-Stokes equations with interfaces between phases and free surfaces will be discussed. The VOF methods conserve volume exactly and are robust, while the marker chain methods allow greater accuracy and stability. These methods offer a unique approach to problems such as bubble deformation in cavitating flows and in the regime of single bubble sonoluminescence. The problem of crown formation for splashing droplets will also be discussed. DATE: TUESDAY, APRIL 4, 2000 TIME: 2:30 PM LOCATION: Building 2, Room 338 Refreshments will be served at 3:30 PM in Building 2, Room 349.
