Connecting to the MIT Math Department from Mac OS 10.3 (Panther)
***Please note that not all steps have screenshots.***
- Select "System Preferences from the Apple Menu.

- Click on "Network" in either the top bar or the third rown down.

- On the screen that then opens, choose: Internal Modem

- In order to change modem settings, you will probably have to authenticate. Click the lock in the
corner to unlock the settings.

- You will then have to enter your Mac OS X username and password.

- Fill in the information as it appears below, substituting the correct username and password for your Math account.

- When your done entering that information click "Apply Now"
- On that same screen, click the "PPP" button, above where it says "Service Provider".
On the PPP window that opens, enter the following information. Make sure that "Connect Using A Terminal
Window" is checked.

- Click OK and then close the System Preferences window.
- Open up your Applications folder in the Finder and launch "Internet Connect".

- You may want to save a shortcut to this in your Dock so that it's handy next time you want to connect to the
Internet. Once Internet Connect is running, hold down the Control key and then click the Internet Connect icon in
the Dock. Choose, "Keep In Dock". Now you have a shortcut for future use.
- Once Internet Connect is running, select "Internal Modem" from it's menu bar. You should see something
like the following:

- To begin the dialup process, click "Connect."
- You will hear the modem dialing and connecting, after it connects a terminal window will pop up. Enter your username
and password. When you get a command prompt, type the command "slirp -P".

- If all goes well you will see a long message that ends with "SLiRP Ready..." To finish connecting,
click "Continue". You are now connected to the Math Department and the Internet.

- When you are ready to disconnect, launch Internet Connect again, and click the "Disconnect" button.
After a few seconds you will be disconnected.
