18.100B and 18.100C, Analysis I, Fall 2009.

This is the main webpage for both 18.100B and 18.100C for Fall 2009 but not for 18.100A. This semester the two sections of 18.100B and one of 18.100C will be taught in close parallel with common homework, tests and final examination (with 18.100C involving additional material to meet part of the communication requirement). To take 18.100C you must register for it but you can attend whichever of the three lectures course you wish (plus a recitation). Conversely the T/H afternoon lectures of 18.100C can be treated as an additional section of 18.100B.

Lecture schedule

Homework

Is due on Fridays at Noon in 2-108.

Next homework due on 20 November

In general the deadline will be strictly enforced, in order to have homework returned the following Monday.
To hand in late homework you will have to SCAN it to pdf and email to one of the instructors (not the graders). Late homework will incur a substantial penalty in terms of marks. Homework will be returned in the lecture after it is due (so in general Mondays and Tuesdays). Homework not collected in lecture will be available in 2-108 -- you will have to ask for it!

Website for 18.100C recitations

There is a Stellar page set up for 18.100C recitations. Assignments from recitation are to be submitted online through this site! Also, all recitation handouts will be available through the Stellar page.

Final Grades

18.100B: The final grade will be computed in two ways and the actual grade will be the maximum of the two. The first, more conventional, method will be the combination of 30% homework, 30% tests and 40% final exam. The second method is to base the grade purely on the final exam. We do this only to allow individuals who have initial difficulty with the course (and there are usually some(!)) to recover. We strongly advise that you not rely on the second, `Hail Mary Pass,' approach.
18.100C: 80% of the grade (corresponding to 12 units) will be computed according to the formula for 18.100B. The remaining 20% of the grade will be based on the recitations, with 5% of the total grade based on participation in recitation and 15% based on recitation assignments (which are separate from and in addition to the 18.100B/C p-sets). N.B.: More than one unexcused absence from recitation will result in zero credit for the recitation part of the grade.
