COURSE DESCRIPTION

Complex algebra and functions; analyticity; contour integration, Cauchy's theorem; singularities, Taylor and Laurent series; residues, evaluation of integrals; multivalued functions, potential theory in two dimensions; Fourier analysis, Laplace transforms, and partial differential equations.

Prerequisites: Calculus II (GIR); 18.03 or 18.034

Textbook: Advanced Analytic Methods in Applied Mathematics, Science, and Engineering, by Hung Cheng, Luban Press.

Homework: Homework will be collected in the lecture on the Monday after they have been assigned. You may discuss, but not copy, the solution written by others. The homeworks will be 10% of the total grade.

Exams: Three hour exams (March 9, F; April 13, F; May 9, W). No final. Each exam is 30% of the total grade.
